The Taitung Old Railway Bikeway was established after the original Taitung railway station stopped operating in 2001. The Taitung County Government especially implemented the plan of “Look Back to the Old” where artists and residents along the railway line got together and discussed a plan to beautify their “back door”. What used to be a barren and abandoned railway line, overgrown with weeds and piled up with waste, was turned into a charming art wall. The wall is connected to the old railway bikeway which runs through Taitung City and has become a great place for leisure, walking and cycling. This urban green belt renewed the overall community with a fresh new outlook, and is comparable to the “Philosopher's Walk" trail in Kyoto, Japan.
